The Beer

'....No, Sir; there is nothing which has yet been contrived by man, by which so much happiness is produced as by a good tavern or inn.' Doctor Samuel Johnson.

As a consequence, we pride ourselves providing you with nothing less than the perfectly served, kept, cleaned and maintained pint humanly poss

But enough about us. What you really care about is not just the how, and why - but what in terms of ale we sell.

Broadly speaking, we offer a core folio of six house beers which are always available ably supported by three totally free-of-tie guest pumps featuring some of Britain's best and brightest ales. So that's a mouth-watering nine ales in total available at any one time.

Our current 'core' folio of 'ever dependables' includes the following:

spitfireBettys Best (3.6% ABV)
Named in honour of our tireless cleaner, Betty Guy and brewed exclusively for us by our pals at Outstanding Brewery, this gorgeous little ale is our current best seller. Brewed with the best British barley malt and hopped with the finest hops from the USA and New Zealand, Betty’s Best is a clean, easy drinking and refreshing beer with a surprising depth of character (just like our Betty).

Black Sheep BreweryBlack Sheep (3.8% ABV)
An amazingly popular choice, Black Sheep is a well hopped, light golden session bitter with a distinctive, dry, refreshing taste enjoyed through a rich creamy head.

Deuchars IPAGreene King IPA (3.6% ABV)
Greene King IPA is a great tasting beer, characterised by its fresh, hoppy taste and clean, bitter finish.

Despite the simplicity of the ingredients - barley, water, yeast and hops - it's in the creation of the recipe that the skill of the master brewer lies. And here's the real secret of our success. We can turn those basic ingredients into some of the best cask ales available today - each with its own individual flavour, aroma, colour and characteristics.

This award-winning beer's hoppy taste and aroma comes from two varieties of English hops, which are combined with pale and crystal malts.

Greene King IPA is a great beer to enjoy particularly with certain foods such as curry, Mexican and other spicy food. But it's equally enjoyable on it's own.
